Re-Elected Deer Industry Chairman Predicts Good Year 11-Nov-1999 Mr Clive Jermy, of Cambridge, has been re-elected Chairman of the New Zealand Game Industry Board for a further one year term. Mr Andrew Thomson, a Wellington company director and independent Board member, was re-elected Deputy Chairman. Mr Jermy commented that his first year as Chairman had been "challenging" because of the producer board reform process which had dominated the year. "With industry reforms agreed, and greater stability and accord developing within the industry, the year ahead looks very positive," he said. "Venison prices are at their best for three years, and prospects are good for an extended chilled venison export season. The industry’s new European marketing strategy will highlight the New Zealand origin of our product, and help extend its usual season while expanding into non-traditional market segments. "Early season velvet prices have recovered very well and are now back to pre-Asian crash levels. Growth opportunities in western natural health markets are excellent for velvet in the longer term and this is where we have focused our research programme." Mr Jermy concluded. Clive Jermy is the proprietor of Stanfield Oaks, a leading deer stud in the Waikato, and Stanfield Bushey Park in North Otago. He has been a member of the NZGIB Board since 1993 and was elected Chairman in 1998. For more information, please contact:Mr Collier Isaacs, NZGIB Chief Executive, phone (04) 473 4500 |
